Job responsibilities
As Refrigeration Mechanic, you will be part of a team responsible for supporting the production of top quality, fresh-cut produce by safely maintaining Ready Pac’s refrigeration, compressed air system and boiler equipment while following GMP practices and environmental and regulatory requirements.
Quick question for you - click here You will leverage your strong technical and electromechanical skills, along with knowledge of ammonia refrigeration, glycol heat exchangers, PLCs, steam, and other utilities, as you work on equipment in utility and refrigeration areas.
Your specific tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Following good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety guidelines
- Working safely around moving equipment and conveyors in wet environment
- Operating and repairing ammonia system components; safely pumping down the ammonia system
- Aligning motors to refrigeration compressors (screw and recips)
- Troubleshooting, supporting and/or repairing air compressor systems and their mechanical components
- Replacing air and water filters, and repairing water traps/purging mechanisms
- Responding to trouble calls and emergency conditions as requested
- Monitoring computerized refrigeration control programs
- Supporting ammonia systems from initial design to installation and start-up/operations
- Programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Troubleshooting power distribution systems; troubleshooting systems up to 480 volts with complicated electrical controls and wire 3 phase motors
- Using TP Charts on NH3 and other refrigerants
- Operating and maintaining air compressors and air dryers
- Servicing HVAC dual pack units
- Mentoring and training other refrigeration mechanics as needed
- Reporting to the Utility Refrigeration Supervisor

Desired qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; diploma / certification from an accreted HVAC/ Refrigeration technical school preferred
- At least 3 years of experience working in the HVAC / Refrigeration field (industrial or ammonia refrigeration) Quick question for you - click here
- 2+ years of experience working with compressed air systems and boilers
- RETA, CARO or CIRO certification preferred
- EPA certification preferred (required within 6 months of employment)
- Technical skills and knowledge, including:
- Ability to follow all safety practices (e.g. ammonia and chemical handling and storage procedures, PPE, equipment safety - lock-out/tag-out, proper cleanup, etc.)
- OSHA, and GMP requirements as they pertain to refrigeration maintenance activities
- EPA regulations pertaining to the release of refrigerant
- Operating principles of air compressors systems
- PLC systems and components
- Working safely with electricity up to 480; electrical testing equipment such as multimeter, megger, etc.
- Ability to read P&IDs and electrical diagrams
- Your own set of hand tools and multimeter
- Ability to read and write in English; bilingual Spanish skills are a plus
In addition, you will need:
- A strong work ethic, self-motivation and the drive to continue learning
- Willingness to regularly work on the 2nd shift, from 2 pm to 12:30 am. We work a rotating 4/10 schedule where you'll have every other weekend off
- Flexibility and willingness to work extended shifts (10-12+ hours) on a regular basis, as well as additional shifts as needed
