Job responsibilities
The Automation Technician will interact with the leadership group, production team members, quality assurance, and other maintenance technicians to improve and maximize plant output, efficiency, quality and safety. Duties will include proactively troubleshooting, diagnosing and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production and plant support equipment. Responsibilities are performed in a high-volume manufacturing environment where individuals are involved with overhauling equipment and the installation of new equipment. The Automation Technician is responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to, equipment repairs, parts replacement, completing work orders, participation in PM's, cleaning and lubricating equipment according to pre-set standards, performing tear downs, set-up of equipment and performing emergency troubleshooting and repairs when needed.
What you will Do:
- Identify, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical problems on plant facilities and production equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and documents maintenance concerns/resolutions; providing action plans and status reports as needed.
- Recognize and correct potential equipment failure or unsafe conditions.
- Inspect, operate and/or test facility’s equipment to diagnose issues; dismantle equipment, machines to access and remove defective parts; diagnose problems utilizing blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary.
- Ensure that all work performed meets required codes (OSHA, City and Federal) and is in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
- Utilize PLC programs for troubleshooting
- Safely complete the physical tasks associated with the essential job functions. These tasks include extensive climbing, walking, lifting, bending, standing, carrying and squatting (up to 95% of the time).
- Responsible for working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s/ controls/ protocols platforms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Desired qualifications:
What you will Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification/certification.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent certification or completion of an accredited apprenticeship.
- 5 years of experience within the electronics field.
- 2 years of experience in manufacturing, preferably food manufacturing. Quick question for you - click here
- 1 year of mechanical experience preferred.
- Functional knowledge of mechanical components (valves, pipe fittings, bearings, motors, gearboxes, etc.).
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mechanical systems.
- Computer skills, with the capability to use email, compile reports and spreadsheets for parts and project tracking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization (both written and verbal).
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Be able to work both independently and in a team environment completing objectives efficiently.

The Automation Technician must:
- Understand components and working knowledge of PLC system, the relationships of a PLC system from program inputs, outputs and ladder logic in order to troubleshoot problems from a laptop computer.
- Be knowledgeable in programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Be able to run electrical conduit and be knowledgeable of Code Requirements and troubleshoot power distribution systems, knowledgeable with 4-20 mA and 12-24 VDC (low voltage) control circuits for automated equipment
