Job responsibilities
Earn a $1500 sign-on bonus
The welder / fabrication technician uses specialized equipment, such as metal welding or soldering tools, to build components for a variety of products and equipment. Additionally, this position will be responsible for repairing and providing maintenance for mechanical equipment, performing routine inspections of the tools and equipment, and training people on how to care for the machines that we use in our production centers. This welder / fabrication technican will have extensive training on the first shift (up to 12 weeks of online and hands-on training) then serve as the only welder / fabricator resource for the 2nd shift. Workflow is determined by work orders, PM, emergency needs and assigned special projects.
What you will do:
- Follow good manufacturing practices, personal protective equipment requirements, and safety guidelines.
- Work safely around moving equipment and conveyors in a wet environment
- Comply with SQF (Safe Quality Food) Regulatory Programs.
- Prepare work plans and materials for constructive or repair welding from drawings, blueprints, or other written specifications by selecting appropriate metal materials and welding rods, and laying out, measuring and drawing guidelines on metal materials such as pipe, tubing or sheets of nickel, brass, aluminum, stainless steel and various irons.
- Cut, grind, bend or drill metals into various shapes by selecting appropriate torch tips, and adjusting and directing a metal lathe, metal bender or the flame of a hand-held or stationary oxygen/gas or arc cutting torch.
- Fabricate unique or prototype equipment or component parts and modify existing equipment by selecting the appropriate welding machine or torch, rods and torch tips, adjusting valves, electrical currents and other variable factors according to the type of metal used.
- Soldering, brazing or welding prepared metal materials using standard or precision arc-air, arc or gas methods.
- Repair or reconstruct defective, damaged, fatigued or worn metal equipment, fixtures, or component parts of equipment using appropriate welding or soldering techniques and equipment.
- Adjust, clean and make minor repairs to assigned cutting and welding tools/equipment as necessary in order to maintain tools/equipment in operating condition.
- Receive instructions, prints, and work orders for a job and plan details of work, procedure, tools, man-hours and material required.
- Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.
- Work with a strong Maintenance team and multiple internal stakeholders, including lead mechanics and machine operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You will work a rotating 4/10 schedule from 3 PM to 1:30 AM, with the flexibility for overtime.

Desired qualifications:
What you will need:
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of TIG and stainless steel and aluminum welding experience required; stick welding experience is a plus. As part of the hiring process, you will be required to pass a welding and fabrication test to demonstrate your proficiency. Quick question for you - click here
- Knowledge of the standard and precision methods of welding and metal fabrication including arc and gas welding, cutting, brazing, soldering and metalworking.
- Ability to plan the design and determine the appropriate sizes and shapes of materials to use in metal fabrication or repair of fixtures and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches or technical drawings in order to determine the appropriate methods to use in fabricating, modifying or repairing fixtures and equipment as intended by the requestor or manufacturer.
- Knowledge of the proper use and care of materials and assigned tools/equipment such as gas-shielded arc welders, arc welders, and acetylene, oxygen or arc-cutting torches, welding rods and torch tips, plasma cutters and related components.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and heat treatment as they relate to the strength and use of various combinations of flame and metal.
- Ability to read and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, to inquire about, understand and execute instructions or work orders.
- A go-getter approach with the ability to work independently and as a strong team member.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of pride and urgency.

- Must use, wear and follow PPE and GMP compliance requirements.
- Must keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
