Job responsibilities
Under the direction of the Plant Environmental Health & Safety Manager, the EH&S Coordinator will ensure compliance with all applicable EH&S policies and resolve EH&S deficiencies and/or issues. S/he will have responsibility for safety and environmental administration, injury case management, ergonomic injury prevention, technical safety advice and site-wide safety training at all levels of the organization. This is an ideal ground-level role for someone who is interested in building a career in EH&S. You will support, and be an essential member of, an experienced 3-person EH&S team who in turn will provide strong mentorship and training. You will have the opportunity to learn beyond your job description through cross-training and heavy involvement in injury prevention, workers comp and environmental protection. This is a Monday - Friday, day shift position for someone who is also able to work beyond those hours as department needs and/or incidents demand.
What you will support:
- Implement and ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and environmental rules and regulations.
- Manage facility environmental programs in the areas of hazardous waste, Storm Water pollution, and wastewater management. Inform management of environmental problems and solutions involving employees, the company and the public.
- Prepare/submit environmental reports in compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations.
- Ensure all associates, both hourly and management, receive all the training necessary to safely perform their respective duties and operate within the plant environment. This includes training for managers on programs they are required to implement.
- Regularly plan, implement and train site personnel on various EH&S policies and programs, including, but not limited to, safety practices, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, regulations and standards, and incident investigation.
- Identify and suggest corrective measures to improve the facility’s accident experience and suggest/implement means to achieve EH&S goals.
- Ensure that mandatory OHSA reporting is completed, i.e. annual OSHA 300 log, notifications of serious accidents, etc.
- Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries and prepare material and evidence as needed.
- Regularly inspects the facility to detect exiting or potential accident and health hazards, determine and implement corrective or preventive measures where indicated.
- Oversee the administration of the workers’ compensation program for the site; support the Corporate EH&S program and direction and maintain EH&S files and records.

- Manage WC files
- Coordinate subpoena process
- Coordinate the accommodation process
- Follow up with associates who have attended the clinic (restrictions, follow-up visits, etc.)
- Provide associates who are being treated at the clinic with instructions on following their treatment and missing their appointments
- Assist Gallagher-Bassett with information requests
- Create Personal Action Forms for associates on WC or Extended WC/LOA – share information with HR
Injury Management/Return to Work (20%)
- Monitor claimant activities and follow up to to ensure completeness
- Update log for accommodations (LOA, and WC)
- Maintain logs/spreadsheet for all work status reports
- Maintain follow-up log for “Medical Declinations”
- Create acknowledgment forms for work restrictions
General Administrative Duties (20%)
- Prepare weekly incident summary reports
- Update and maintain an incident log (sent to the clinic, corrective action, and recovery)
- Mail pick-up and review
- Provide regular communication and follow-up with supervisors to ensure completion of safety responsibilities (safety inspections, observations)
- Update Daily Management Boards/Safety Communication Boards
- Update injury tracker boards
- Order and maintain first aid supplies
- Coordinate PIT training schedule
- Print, laminate, obtain trainer's signature and distribute PIT certification cards
- Send weekly PIT reminders to the Maintenance and Warehouse Team
- Update PIT certification log
- Coordinate training activities with the Training Team
- Support Safety Recognition Program (Future)
EHS Compliance (10%)

Desired qualifications:
What you will need:
- An associate's degree or equivalent experience.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in EH&S. We will also consider recent graduates of EH&S programs.
- Strong attention to detail and proven track record of results with a bias for action.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently.
- Sense of urgency; ability to take action quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to perform repetitive movements, occasionally lifting 50 or more pounds. The associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold.
